Alan Collett - Chairman
Alan Collett was born in Portsmouth on 27 June 1951 and educated at Portsmouth Grammar School. In 1972 he graduated from the College of Estate Management with an honours degree in Estate Management.
He joined Allsop in 1972 working initially in the residential sales and development markets. He became an Equity Partner of the firm in 1980 initially leading the Residential Department. Since then he has worked in the development, insolvency, investment and valuation sectors in both residential and commercial property.
He was Managing Partner of the firm from 1994-1996, and Senior Partner from May 1996 until May 2006 when he returned full time to Residential Investments. In July 2009, he retired as an Allsop Partner and became a Consultant to Allsop, remaining Chairman of ARIM.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 1983 and has served as a member of International Governing Council and as Chairman of the Marketing Policy Committee of which he remains a member. In the past he has been Chairman of the ISVA Valuation Committee and was Senior Vice President at the time of the merger of the ISVA and RICS. He is a member of the fixed charge receivership regulation scheme, and an Affiliate member of the Securities Institute. He is an Honorary Fellow of the College of Estate Management and a member of the Executive Board of the Empty Homes Agency. In July 2009, Alan was elected Vice President of the RICS for a period of three years.
Alan is married with three children and comes from a property family, with his father and grandfather both having been auctioneers and valuers. His interests outside property are sailing, skiing and classic motor racing.
